New Native Mass Spectrometry Technique for Rapid Protein Analysis

Professor Michal Sharon, from the Weizmann Institute of Science, shares how her multidisciplinary lab uses a new native mass spectrometry technique to understand the structure-function relationship of large protein complexes. This new technique allows samples to be directly analyzed without the need for multiple levels of protein purification, narrowing the gap between protein analysis and protein production.

Professor Michal Sharon

Weizmann Institute of Science

Prof. Michal's lab aims to discover the mechanisms that control and coordinate the activity of molecular machines involved in the protein degradation pathway. To do so, Sharon and her team apply novel native mass spectrometry approaches, in conjunction with fluorescence microscopy, biochemical and cell biology methods - generating an integrative mode of analysis combining in vitro and in vivo findings.
