In this video, Dr. Petur Dalsgaard describes the challenges of screening for unknown designer drugs and highlights the merits of laboratories sharing data libraries. With approximately 2 new designer drugs entering the black market on a weekly basis, data sharing and method development are crucial for scientist to stay ahead of the game.
Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen
Petur specialises in analytical chemistry and toxicology, as well as screening for drugs in blood, urine and muscle by liquid chromatography - high resolution - mass spectrometry (UHPLC, Time-of-Flight and Orbitrap). He was educated as a pharmacist at the University of Copenhagen and did his Ph.D. on new metabolites from unexplored fungi. This was a joint project between the University of Copenhagen, DTU and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He has 10 years of working experience with LC/MS on small molecules (<600 Da), and one year Post Doc experience from the University of Basel working with LC/MS analysis of proteins. He currently works as a research scientist at the Forensic Chemistry Section at the University of Copenhagen.
