Why We Have So Few Cancer Biomarkers

Biomarkers provide the highest value proposition for cancer, says Dr. Anna Barker, Professor, Arizona State University. Although published data show the discovery of hundreds of thousands of biomarkers in cancer, only about 100 are approved and only around 10 actually used in the clinic. Why is there such a mismatch in numbers between discovery and application, then? Barker goes on to explain what truly makes a clinically relevant biomarker.
