Building Healthier Food Systems: From Practices to Policy

Professor Cecilia Rocha, Director of the School of Nutrition at Ryerson University, Canada, presents the results of an iPES FOOD report on sustainable food systems, commissioned by the Global Alliance for the Future of Food. The report set out to understand how food systems impact human health, how well these impacts are understood, the challenges faced in building a comprehensive understanding of these impacts and the key leverage points that can be used to change food systems in the future.

Cecilia Rocha is Director of the School of Nutrition at Ryerson University, Canada. More

Cecilia Rocha is Director of the School of Nutrition at Ryerson University, Canada. A member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food), she is also an associate researcher at the Centre for Studies in Food Security at Ryerson. She participated in the development of the Toronto Food Strategy (2008-2010), was a member of the Toronto Food Policy Council (2005-2011), and the director of the project Building Capacity in Food Security in Brazil (2004-2010), funded by the Canadian International Development Agency. Since 2015, she has been co-directing the project Scaling Up Small-Scale Food Processing for Therapeutic and Complementary Food for Children in Vietnam, in partnership with Vietnam’s National Institute of Nutrition, with funding from Global Affairs Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Dr. Rocha is the author of a number of scholarly papers and reports on food policy and programmes in Brazil.
