Quiescent cancer stem cells are often missed when by resection surgery, amounting to cancer relapse. Being radiation resistant, these cancer stem cells survive treatments, posing a risk for more aggressive cancers in the future. Dr. Shrikant Anant of The University of Kansas Cancer Center describes how targeting cancer stem cells as a strategy can offer effective therapies to not only become cancer-free, but ultimately be cured.
